Bougeoir
Designer : Ronan BouroullecThis candle holder explores the delicate balance between mass and lightness, both physically and poetically. Carved from marble, the object functions as a quiet counterweight: a solid base that stabilises the slender, elongated candle, while simultaneously acting as a subtle backdrop that frames and amplifies the flame. The design embodies Bouroullec’s characteristic sensitivity to line, proportion, and restraint. Known for his ability to create forms that feel both essential and expressive, he reduces the object to its purest gesture, allowing material, light, and space to enter into dialogue. At 42 cm in height, the piece pushes marble to its technical limits. Its remarkably thin profile challenges conventional expectations of the material, requiring exceptional precision and craftsmanship. In this object, weight becomes both function and expression: grounding the candle while elevating the experience of light. It is a work that reflects Matera’s ethos, where material integrity, artisanal skill, and contemporary design converge into a singular, timeless form.
