Netherlands

Richard Hutten (born 1967, the Netherlands) is one of the most influential and recognizable Dutch designers of his generation. Based in Rotterdam, he is known for his conceptual, innovative, and playful approach to design, often creating objects that combine clarity, humor, and optimism. Hutten graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1991 and founded his own design studio the same year. Since then, he has worked across furniture, product, and interior design, creating pieces that frequently become contemporary design icons. He was closely involved with Droog Design from its beginning in 1993, playing an important role in the internationally influential Dutch design movement that redefined the relationship between concept, function, and storytelling in design. Hutten has collaborated with leading international brands including Moooi, Moroso, Kvadrat, OFFECCT, and Christofle.

His work is held in the permanent collections of more than forty museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
