Studio Job (Smeets)
NetherlandsJob Smeets, founder of Studio Job (1998), is a leading figure in contemporary conceptual and sculptural art. Known for reviving monumental bronze sculpting, he works across
materials including marquetry, ceramics, textiles, and silver, blending traditional
craftsmanship with modern techniques.
His “non-modernism” style—rich in detail, historical references, and dark humor—challenges the boundary between sculpture and function. Based in the Netherlands, Smeets collaborates with luxury brands such as Hermès, Fendi, Swarovski, and Land Rover, and has created hundreds of collectible designs for brands like Alessi, Gufram, and Swatch.
His work has been exhibited globally, including at The Met, the V&A, and the Venice Biennale. With over 400 exhibitions, a Dutch national stamp commission, and ongoing work across art, design, fashion, and architecture, Smeets remains one of the most influential figures in contemporary design. His upcoming project, House of Delft (2027), will be the largest artwork in the Netherlands.
