Teruhiro Yanagihara leads a multidisciplinary design practice with studio and gallery spaces, Vague, located in Kobe (Japan) and Arles (France). His work spans across Japan, France, the UK, the Netherlands, and Taiwan, engaging in projects that transcend geographical and disciplinary boundaries.
The studio operates across interior and product design while also providing creative direction for a wide range of international brands. Yanagihara’s approach emphasizes the intersection of contemporary design, industry, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship, creating meaningful cross-cultural encounters.
He is also the founder of the brand Lichen, which explores sensory experiences through taste, smell, and sound.
His collaborations include notable brands such as 1616 / arita japan, 2016/, Kimura Glass, OFFECCT, Kvadrat, Skagerak, THREE, FIVEISM × THREE, and Mame Kurogouchi.
Yanagihara’s works are part of the permanent collections of institutions including the Centre national des arts plastiques (Paris) and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
He served as a jury member for the Good Design Award (Japan) in 2020 and has been a jury member of the KOKUYO Design Award since 2021.
