Attraction of the opposites.

When Richard Hutten was asked to design something in heavy stone for Matera he immediately came up with the idea to make something light. The lightest thing he could imagine was a cloud, a symbol of freedom and happiness. This playful concept was then transformed into an aesthetic bubbly shape. The cloud shape has been a reoccurring shape in the oeuvre of Hutten, with the highly sought after limited edition mirror steel Cloud chair as the most well known example, now being part of the collection of important collectors and museums.

“I love having my head in the clouds” said Richard, adding: “The cloud shape amplifies the intrinsic qualities of the stone it’s made from”.
